Only had 3 sections mandrel bent

2 x A Pillar Sections
1 x B Pillar Hoop

Rest is all just cut, notched and welded into place

Could be done using a hydrolic bender, but will crease the pipe, this is not allowed if its going to be used in competition, but should be ok for a "show" cage.

What do you mean by a hydraulic bender creasing the pipe? (not having a go just wondering.)

The whole point in a pipe bender is so as not to cause any creasing or 'folding' and create a smooth curve.

I've been thinking about this for a while. There are welder and coppersmiths in my work that are certificated to work on nuclear power plant jobs so their welding is up to scratch. Would just be a case of finding out what kind of tube to use.

I know it would be solid, but would always have the worry hanging over my head knowing it's not been done 'properly'

It is pretty much impossible to bend any form of pipe using a cheap pipe bender without causing it to crease / compress / fold whatever you want to call it!

How ever gentle you are it will always have some defect.

Don't think the ones at work are cheap TBH they make a good job. I know what you're saying though.
