So i was driving home before, and my car just randomly started to sound like a taxi, and i had people flashing me etc

So i slowed down, to see if i could hear anything, and it sounded like it was running deisel or had no oil in.

Got home, to see smoke pouring out of my bonnet. Lifted it up to see oil ALLL over my engine bay - and the oil cap had completely dissapeared (and yes, i did have it on)

I think alll of the oil has came out, but didnt have time etc to check.

I was told that it SHOULD be ok if i fill it up with oil and let it run for 20 mins (with a oil cap on)

But was wondering what people think. I probably drove about 7 miles odd with it like that.

Only changed oil 3-4 weeks ago aswell

Should get away with it as long as it didnt run out of oil, having it splash out the hole a bit wont hurt anything.

Did the oil light come on?

Should be alrite mate as would be hard for it to lose all its oil comming out the top end, fill it up with oil and get a new cap then let it run on idle for a bit

I don't understand how people were flashing you because they could see smoke coming out of your bonnet, but you couldn't?

I had people do that... They were flashing me when my header tank was boiling and steam was poring out.

I don't think I've shouted "I know" more times in a few minutes in my life.

check ur oil level, top up if needs be

then personally i'd run it upto about 2500 rpm just after its fired on all 4 and hold it there for a min or 2... purely because if you let it idle it has bugger all oil pressure

taking it upto that rpm from cold wont hurt it, but it gets the oil pressure up quickly so that fresh oil will work its way round faster
