. . .from my parents, totally unexpected was.
- Canon Eos 450D EF-S 18-55 IS KIT
- Tamron AF70-300mm F/4-5.6Di LD Macro 1:2 for Canon
- Plus, and gladly, Collins' Digital SLR Handbook
I know it is quite a lot of moneys worth, and something I would like to get into, with it helping me in my work hugely, but ermmm, just how good is all that?!

The new 450 is a good bit of kit. Not so sure on the Tamron lens - haven't come across it myself.
You want to get yourself up to Silverstone one day and do a few motorsport shots - I know you're not too far away

Silverstone isn't actually the easiest as its got too much wire fencing but more than possible to get good shots....
....were both taken at Silverstone. Try and find a spot with low fences, or stand up against the wire as close as you can. Start off with head on photos with a high shutter speed (put it on 'Tv' mode) then experiment reducing the speed

what a prezzie, Im assuming your tamron 70 - 300 is unstaibilised, if so you need to have a steady hand or a fast shutter at 300mm 70 - 300`s are very very useful though
seems your off to a good start

I got a 450D last week, not used it much yet but it seems a great piece of kit, again don't know about the Tamron lens, I've only got the kit lens for now
