I need to build a box that will not draw too much power and needs to be silent as possible during normal operation. The box is just going to be used as a networked file server (will only ever have a maximum of 3 systems connected to it at any one time), and will not be used for any other purpose other than for storage and (remote) backup.
The spec of the box itself isn't going to be anything amazing, and will probably be running Linux or Windows NT...
Just need advice on the best silent PSU and motherboard fans money can buy really?
Thanks

Get a few large but slow moving case fans, that way they will be very quiet. Use a 120mm fan on the CPU cooler if you're going for one for the same reason. Remove any smaller fans, or at the least slow them down.
Noctua NF-P12 120mm fans usually get amazing write ups for being silent and still shifting a lot of air.

just built a new media centre with the above kit cant notice its on when running, cpu heatsink can be ran passively (no fan) so its compleatly silent, just make sure to keep an eye on the temp.

OK I got myself a bargain box today, AMD XP1600 with 256Mb RAM, 20Gb HDD and WinXP Pro (with COA too ) for £29!
Just need to sort out RAID SATA controller card, 2x SATA HDDs, silent PSU and CPU fan, keyboard mouse and monitor...
