use MKV containers, not AVI (there shit on large files without splitting)

paul is rigth mkv is a good file to use and you can use dobly audio for digital surround sound.
I use a programme called Handbrake, its free and easy tro use and you can tweek it to get good effects, im not sure though if it works with HD and bluray files (are these m2v's???)

I know how to rip the HD DVD but not sure how to encode it to mkv. Can i just use AutoGK?

that doenst encode to MKV does it? the best codec to use is probalby h.264 codec, bear in mind to play these files you will need a additional codecs, to make sure they will play best one to get is the CCCP codec pack and they will include everything needed
