sony a200 can be had for about £260, on pixmania you can get a canon eos1000D for £276, but thats just for the body. D40 you could get for about £240-250 which is pretty good for beginners, then the d60 for £319.99 - no autofocus on the nikons though if that bothers her? I prefer manual focus myself

yeh the a200 isn't a bad camera, my work mate has one, and for the price you get 10megapixel, and overall seems a good little camera.

I got a reconditioned Canon 350D and LOADS of extras for less than 300.

Check ebay shops, there was loads.
