Depends what ISP you are moving to? Demon are pretty clued up so they may be able to help you migrate your IP block elsewhere.
Do you have to keep the same address?

Do people actually type the IP address in or can you just transfer the Name Servers (is that right Will?)

Surely you'd just change whatever domain you're using to point to the new IP.

depends what hes using it for, if its because of VPNS and such then 9 times out of 10 it uses an IP and not a DNS record.

Sorry guys, just been in meetings about it.
Currently with Demon, we have 10 servers with 16 different pieces of software (new and very old) sending data to us. This includes data going to and from the PNC who allow our current IP.
The software is very unique, and the older stuff doesnt look at our domain address, but instead the IP Address.
We are currently with Demon but our service is dire, paying £fortysomething and getting a down speed of 200k, bt have checked the line and said there is nothing wrong, so will be moving to BT at the new office. What we need is the range of fixed IP's to come with us, almost like a phone number when you move house.
Is it a diffcult process ? Whats it likely to cost...is it possible at all ?

netblock is likely to be owned by Demon so I doubt they can transfer it over to another.
So you have a down speed of 200k? whats your service from Demon suppose to be? up to 8MB?

Yeah 8mb down and 800k up. We see about 150 up and 200 down most the day (with only 10 users on).
What way round the issue could i have will ? I dont really want to start writing patches for software and sending to every customer !

heh maybe you are approaching this the wrong way, maybe your line is fine, demon is fine but your location from the exchange is WANK. ADSL has alot of variables which can result it being a terrible service.
I bet you if you stayed with Demon they would be able to let you keep the same IP addresses when you moved premises.

Distance is a big factor when it comes to wanky speeds on ADSL. The line can be fine but the signal gets weaker when the distance gets longer.
