there should be bols behind i would think.. Never took them off really! Just was chatting to a guy at garage where my car was MOT'ed.. This guy was doing front brakes on corsa.. took him 3 min to take the disks off! and he said that the calliper carries hve to come off!

Weird. As far as I could see the calipers just bolt to the carrier which looks to be part of the hub. I'll have a scan through the manual before I retry.

Gives me a chance to give my calipers a proper paint at least.

Well today I gave the car a wash and a polish (first time I've actually polished, and I was amazed at the results!).

I also sorted the horn, when I got the new steering wheel there was no horn button. So I made one up, and blanked off the hole in the middle with a piece of carbon fibre .


Little push button to work the horn.


I also put the steering wheel back on wonky *rolls eyes*. That photo was straight ahead.

Picked up a fluid PAS rack too:



Painted calipers. I'll paint them better now I've got some spare time.

you managed to get the disks off? or haven't attempted to take them off again?

Tow bar is a necessary evil sadly. Need to get my (non road legal) motorbikes around the place.

Havn't tried doing the disks again, but I did check the manual. And it said you just take the calipers off, take off the screw holding the disk on and twat it with a hammer.

Nothing about taking anything else off.

hmm
did it not mention calipper carrier?
i assume it would have to be changed anyway ifyou want to fit bigger disks&callipers?

That was my thinking too, surely the caliper needs to sit in a different place. But it seems like the caliper bolts to the hub.

And according to the XE guides I've read, it's pretty much a straight swap.

I still wait to be stood corrected.

Just bolted to that rear panel like in the photo...

4 bolts, simple.

I KID!

There's a big box section bar across the inside of the boot bolted to the plate on the outside through the boot panel.

Then there are 2 strut things that bolt into the chassis legs through the boot floor.

I actually thought u were fitting the towbar just to pull the dent out.

R.E your caliper problem,it seems youve removed the caliper with the carrier still attatched.Which is easier anyway and would need doing to remove the disc.

I guess I just need to hit the disk harder.

And yeah, it's a pretty good dent in the rear panel! But hey, it's cosmetic and covered by the bumper anyway.

The tow bar electrics aren't wired in yet, couldn't be bothered in the end.

The car is a VERY tight fit in my garage too.

hopefully not like mine where i have to push the car in as there isnt enough space to open the door to get back out once car is in. quite annoying.

Yeah I had to climb out of the window to get out. And I ran over the cardboard box with my brake pads and disks in. Hopefully not damaging them.

Towbar electrics all hooked up and working a treat.

Added a Sebring backbox. My standard one was so knackered you wouldn't believe.



The rear bit of the backbox broke off leaving it on the centre section. And it needed a tad of butchering to get it off...

On the car, went on with no dramas. Getting that bit off of the centre section took about an hour of butchering though. My garage has no power and it really needed an angle grinder.

The Sebring is much quieter than the old shagged one but still has a nice tone when the revs are up.
