It should stay up till 2nd Feb according to someone on Radio 2. The idea of taking it down on Jan 6th (Epiphany) is a fairly modern thing to do. February 2nd is Candlemas Day. This ancient festival marks the midpoint of winter, halfway between the shortest day and the spring equinox. In olden times, many people used to say that the Christmas season lasted for forty days - until the second day of February.
A German proverb regarding Candlemas Day
" The badger peeps out of his hole on Candlemas Day,
and, if he finds snow, walks abroad; but if he sees the sun shining he draws back into his hole."
I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.
