does it look for words on a page or is it purely you pay google to find your site if that makes sense 
basically how would i go about making my site appear on google as it doesnt atm but then again theres nothing really on it in terms of words atm

You could use meta tags, links page / keywords.
But you register with them, then "add site" onto google.

You have to send in naked pics of your girlfriend/sister/mum etc. and then they decide whether you should rank well or not.
