in fire fox its starting zooming in and out instead of scrolling. whats happened?

Have you pressed it down? I think in XP mine used to do that. In Vista it doesn't - it opens up preview windows of everything I've got open!

hmm ,it seems intermittent on whether it does it or not, and my keyboard is being all funny aswell (different brands, and differnt ports)
maybe its the millenium bug!

dunno but the other week mine randomly decided to break lol... was scrolling down a page when it kind of slipped off the roller if u get me... no the wheel just spins freely and doesnt actually work... but i can still press it in and move it left to right.. just not up and down... :S weird lol

Did you install software off of a CD that came with the mouse? Sometimes they have weird defaults so that in certain programs it does stuff you usually don't want it to.

otherwise go to Control Panel/Mouse adn change the settings in there

if you hold ctrl and then scroll it zooms on mine, you might need to toggle that off of automatic default.
