Does anyone know the best way to apply this look and feel to a normal pic or know what the effect is called so i can search for tutorials cheers for any help

Desaturate, sharpen, darken, add contrast, possibly play with the gamma levels too.

I'm almost 100% sure, thats using HDR, but not to the level that will_ainsowrth uses

Apart from the blown out part of the sky, its very well exposed but i think that might have been intentional just to add some extra contrast.

Other than that, pretty much everything whittie mentioned.
