Right i've always been an Intel Pentium man but looking at getting a new laptop and have noticed alot with the AMD Turion/AMD Athlon/Intel Celeron chipset inside.
What's the difference? and which is best to go for?
Also if anyone can recommend a laptop for around 400-450 which will be quite fast and play football manager 2009 then i would appreciate this.

Ive always liked AMD myself but I think Intel are still leading the market atm.

You want an intel core2duo if possible.
If not it doesn't really matter.

Celeron are the cheap intel chips, Turion i think are the portable AMD chips and Athlon are the more expensive AMD chips?
I personally prefer Intel because the AMD i had overheated (probably my fault on the cooling side, but still)

I've always used AMD chips in my systems. Just cheaper and at the time ran better.
Intel's are the one to have these days

Core2Duo for a laptop, seems to have the best balance of power, price and importantly battery life
edit - as nobleone said, I use AMD in desktop builds as they are cheaper and the performance really isnt that different

im an AMD fan always have been, that said, unless your into top end gaming ect not going to notice much difference.
whenever i build/buy i always go for a medium class AMD seems bettervalue for what i want to use it for.

I use AMD CPU's as well, they're good for the money but Intel's technology really is ahead of AMD. Prices are coming down, too, so for similar money you can get a better performing Intel chip.
AMD processors never quite keep up with Intels, and I think that one reason for this is because they always have less L2 cache in them, which will decrease performance, but is keeping the price down. AMD's tend to run hotter than Intels as well, because they have a higher TDP, which means that they use more power than an Intel equivalent, and because they're using more power, they run hotter.
I also believe that Intel are starting to use a smaller architecture than AMD so that will also help speed, and power consumption.

Yep, I always use Zalmans now 
The fan that came with my Athlon 1GHz ran at 5000rpm  That was a tad noisy.

I forget what I'm using now but the fan is like 3 times the size of the standard one that came with my CPU.

i use a sytche ninja mini in my media centre, no fan on it as its passively cooled, such a quiet system with only one really quiet case fan.
keeps temp really low also.

I had a VF700 on my old graphics card but haven't gotten round to getting one for this one yet. Got a CNPS8000 on the CPU, proper good stuff Works better than my old 7500.
