depends on where you driving I guess/ I'm getting good at the hyper-miling; Its strange since I've started doing it, I've found that Its no slower than driving normally because you only end up sitting behind someone else anyway.
Out of gear though the Audi rolls really well - must be good hubs/bearings etc

If you have one, it might even be your Oil Cooler. I thought my headgasket had gone on my TDi VAG as there was Oil in the coolant tank... turned out the seals on the Oil Cooler had given way and it was an easy fix. Thank god.

i can stretch to arround 590-610 miles to £58-62 (60litres or thereabouts) in my pug 307 hdi work wagon thats all kinds of driving and averaging 47mpg.
probably means nothing.
yet sitting at 80-85 ahem, i mean 70 on the motorway i can get up to around 700, would probably stretch to 800 if i had the balls to run it that low!!!

Is everyone here serious about the 1.2 8v being bad on fuel?. I owned one about 5 years ago as a first car ( a vauxhall corsa 1.2 8v vegas 3 door), and it was the cheapest car to run I have ever owned to this day. I think it worked out around 9p a mile for fuel, £10 would get me over 100 miles just, and that was mainly town driving and the usual driving for the sake of it as youve just passed and I wasnt exactly gentle with the right foot.
The engine was bulletproof nothing ever went wrong with mine, only had it 6 months mind and the only problems I ever had were running out of fuel (my fault) and a flat battery. I sold the car to a lad I knew in the same town and he kept it for a year and had no problems, he then sold it and I used to see it driving about around 50 miles away while I was working away for 6 weeks.
I only sold the car as I wanted something faster, I bought a 1.4 16v sport next and had nothing but problems with it, headgasket being one of the main ones, but I still had over 3,000 miles out of it when I first knew the headgasket was on its way out.
Even though it was always wanting work it was a great car, I probably miss it the most out of all my cars, dont know why as it handled awful and cost me money regularly

My XE's better on fuel than my old 1.6 8 valve mk3 astra. Think it's down to the fact you don't have to rag the tits off it to get it moving, as you did with the astra.
