There is a law getting passed that clubs (entertainment venues) will have to limit the volume to 70-80dB - at the moment, most venues are 90-110dB.

And ringing of the ears is usually down to Tinnitus and in most cases due to the receptor cells (the tiny hairs in your ear) being flattened when exposed to prolong volume levels. And lost of hearing (usually you'll loose certain frequency ranges first) is usually when the receptor cells don't 'spring' back, ie: they stay permanently flattened.

To be honest, most clubs should hand out ear plugs, although they tend to be those shite foam things. Best thing to do, if you gig/club a lot (or even a musician) is get yourself a pair of customs, like ACS. They might cost £160, but for the sake of still being able to hear when your 40 it's certainly worth it.

You'll be fine, it would have damaged your hearing to a certain degree although i doubt it'll be noticable.

It is a good call, I've a few friends that wear them. A couple of them will probably be shot through mentally before their hearing goes though.
