Hi

Ive seen a few Corsas for sale on various sites, XE and LET corsas stating that they are for sale but are still logged as 1.4 or 1.6 on the Reg Certificate.

Does a corsa with an engine transplant but still with a Reg Certificate stating that it is still a 1.4 or 1.6 still pass MOT??

Thanks

No, if the MOT tester notices that the 1.2 corsa in for MOT isn't 1.2 it will be failed. Also voids your insurance

|Not true.. Has nothing to do with insurance if you have actually insured it as having the new engine.. MOT can still be passed BUT the DVLA wont be happy if they find out.

And id imagine there'd be conflict with emissions. 2.0 having higher emissions with a 1/4/1.6 registered car etc

I thought it couldn't be passed if the MOT tester does not pass the engine as being the engine you say it is?

right the MOT emmissions is done on whatever was used first

soo a 2 litre 1989 engine in a 1999 car u would have a 1989 emmisions test

makes no diffrence to the MOT as its not a safety issue

the emissions goes on the year of the car not the year of the engine. if the engine didn't have a cat on and the year of the car has a cat on the car will be put thought the cat test. i've just had my car done and mine was a 1.2 but now has the 1.6 engine in and was cat tested as a 1.2 and only just passed. the only way to do it right is to inform DVLA then the system will then know what its dealing with.

if the vehicle is registered having the 2.0 or let engine then you'll be fine.. if the engine isnt registered then the MOT system will flag up its only a 1.2 or 1.4 and the car will be a struggle to get through the emmisions.. wozza51's xe flew though the emmisions almost had the max limit on HC and Co of a catted car

If it passes emissions it shouldnt be a problem. Obviously a let without a cat would not pass a 1.2 emissions test.

The only way to prove the engine fitted isnt the original unit is to take off the head and measure the bore and stroke. Even if its blatantly a v6 in a 1.0 3 pot ecotec shell it still cant be failed without proof the bore and stroke are above the standard spec.

As far as insurance goes, if you hit another car in yours with an incorrect engine or even undeclared mods, your insurance will still be valid as your covering the third party regardless of your cars structural state.
