I have a compressor which i use for air tools i tend to use different tools each time i use it. But i dont know what i need to stop the air coming out the line when i remove a tool.

When the compressor has enough pressure it switches off. Is there somesort of valve i need or an inline air regulator?

You need a quick release fitment with shut off valve in it.. Most do this
