If you struggle to keep the Corsa running, good luck keeping the golf running (running costs etc etc)

But you have to be able to afford to run it, it wants servicing more often, it was more expensive parts, repairs are more expensive.

If your struggling to run a Corsa now (ie. can't keep up servcing etc) then IMO theres no hope for a Golf. This isn't all aimed at you Pip, I'm just saying.

I wouldn't buy a VAG with 10k service intervals on my sort of money again

Since when does a Golf require servicing more often? You can choose to either put it on a longlife service plan or regular 12 month - my golf is on the normal 12 months so no more regular than my old Corsa.

Though yes, parts are more expensive.

The 1.9 PD diesel units want servcing every 10k with the most expensive oil going!

As I spend all day driving around in a Golf 1.9TDI, I voted that. Much better car.
