Right my grandad ahs got a retro HP Pavallion ze something or another laptop. He tried to play a cd on it last night and nothing is coming up, coming up with no dives etc? Can someone shed some light please

Probabaly needs a driver installed for it to pick it up.

Thing is he tried to reset back to a date where it were working all ok, but to no avail it didnt work. He has also tried to re-install the drivers CD but again nothing happend.

put the drivers on a memory stick with a different comp. then put the stick in his laptop and install from there.

no it wont make any difference. i'm not saying it will work but it's one way to get the drivers on there. you could also download them direct to his machine. if it turn out to be fooked you just buy a new one.

From the little information we have here it sounds like the cd drive has failed, especially if it's not working with any discs or showing up in windows.

It could be various things causing it but without swapping in another cd drive you can't really tell.

I'd have best guess at the drive and see how cheap you can get one on ebay.
