West Ham and Sheffield United are close to agreeing a deal over compensation to end the long-running Carlos Tevez saga, BBC Sport understands.
The Blades were judged to be entitled to recompense after Tevez helped keep West Ham in the Premier League in 2007, despite being signed ineligibly.
A formal hearing was arranged for next week but the clubs wanted to avoid it.
It is believed the clubs will release a joint statement after agreeing a series of payments for a total £10-15m.
"The clubs have been trying to agree a level of compensation to avoid having to go to next week's formal hearing to sort it out in front of Lord Griffiths," said BBC Sport's Gordon Farquhar.
Griffiths chaired the arbitration panel that concluded last September that Sheffield United should be entitled to compensation from West Ham.

Goes to show that Sheffield United weren't that set on getting justice then if they wavered at the sniff of money.

They may have taken a commercial decision not to proceed to court...
As lets face it...even if they did win...they wouldnt be reinstated to the PL...

what you mean Nath, our new signings are doing fantasticly warming our bench whilst shite like Montgomery and Quinn are dancing round our park!
Seriously though - WHU know they are in the wrong and have got off cheaply with £10m, should have relegated them from the start

They should sue every other player who scored against them/fellow relegation battlers, clutching at straws shouldn't end there.
