Purchased a nokia n95 8gb (o2 contract handset) brand new to use with my Orange contract sim as i wasnt happy with my battered n95.
Never had an issue with my n80, or n95 (other than the appauling batt life) but i have had so many issues with this one. Turning off, resetting randomly, Wlan menu dissapearing and when trying to get to it from the wizard it would say system error. Updated the software as soon as it was availible and now the web browser wont refresh pages properly. If i am on cs for e.g i click gen chat unless i keep manualy refreshing it it wont update after i read a post. Small annoyance but ive had enough. Never had a prob with my Orange n95 or n80, nor my gfs n82 or my nokia branded e90.
So i want to debrand it! However when i attempted this with my n95 i bricked it. (xp made pc suite beleive the usb had been disconected) then the phone told me to take batt out and reconnect usb (not knowing better at the time i did as asked) obviously it bricked the phone as i cut the power half way through and the usb was connected just want rid of o2's shite on the phone.
Anyway, has anyone done it themselves without any mishaps/issues? If so what guide did you follow and which product codes did you use etc

I've done it on all my symbian nokias.
Nemesis Software Suite (NSS)
Find out a generic product code then update to the latest firmware.
I think i've posted a guide before, i'll have a look.

What's the benefit of debranding a phone? I'm glad my shiney E71 isnt branded externally with the Orange logo

Can install the latest firmware without waiting for the network to allow it and get rid of anything they've put on it.
Not sure what was on the n71, I had it debranded and updated before i started using it.

orange would have disabled the voip on the e71 so you can get that Simon.
This software is the worst ive seen on a branded phone. Didnt think o2 messed with theirs much.

am i right in thinking you'd change the product code to one of the Euro product codes if in the UK (eg: Euro01 - Plum etc)?
edit - no worries found the list in the comments about languages etc
edit 2 - http://www.n95users.com/forum/its-broke/3339-upgrading-firmware-when-not-allowed-nsu.html#post28636 has a list of N95 8GB product codes.
