looks like the neadle is disconnected rather than the sensor.
three screws and the dial hood comes off. three more screws and the dials come out. clip off the plastic and check to see if the neadle is actually attached to the axle below. even a cold engine sat for 5 year without being switched on would be sat on the far left marker

Seen that happen before, there's a spring in the mechanism that went ping and it did that
|
