I got my Ibiza FR today!!

Some of you may remember a thread a made last week regarding ECU re-maps, and the offer I had of some kit from a Passat.

The guy who's offered me the parts tells me that it isn't actually a new ECU, it's just a device that plugs in between the filter (no idea which one!) and the ecu.

I've read up a bit on how this stuff works, and I don't really see how what I'm being told fits in to what my research is telling me.

Anyone care to share?

Tuning box, I don't know why he's using one if he maps cars.

I'd get an ebay remap for £100

Thanks John... I'm currently favouring that option. I was a bit disapointed with 130bhp. It's sounds better than it is really...

What the idea of a tuning box then?

Edit: Also pros and cons vs recent remap?

Basically just throws more fuel in but in a controlled manner.

They are almost as good as a remap but not quite because they can only alter fueling and not boost.

My options are 70 quid for 160bhp box, or 100 quid for a 170bhp remap...

There are only 2 things that put me off the remap option, insurance (i know we covered this last time) but the main one is not having the car for 3 days (ebay remap)

Yip not having the car is the main downfall with that.

You can send it away as late as possible on a monday, it's away tuesday then its back before 1pm the wed, if you're at work all day during the week though it's probably at least 3 days.

Having had both i'd go for the remap every time now.

For me the only way to go is with a reflash of the ecu, for £350 you can have a reflash done by a professional who does it all day everyday. be warned by cheap reflashes, you do get what you pay for with this kind of work.

They are probably all using the same map.

The guys on ebay do it all day every day anyway.
