Just asking this for a mate, he has a Astra G 1.6 8v and wants to make some small mod to his engine, what are the advantages of iridium sparks plugs? I might also get some if it makes a difference
Thanks, Sean.

Wont make any difference on that car performance wise. Only advantage would be the longer service intervals, but then again you can pay around 4x as much for iridiums over standards. I wouldnt bother.

It won't make it any faster.
What would the iridiums give me on my 1.9tdi, about 5bhp?

Do diesels not have spark plugs
Yes I was kidding.

As said plugs will make no difference bar service intervals, a GM set would be sufficient.
I think the vectra C intake pipe has a larger bore, there would be gains, but they would be so minimum you would not notice them on the road.

Only point to Iridium spark plugs is that they are a colder grade! Only any good in modded turbo cars where engine temps are up so the plug doesnt melt! A strong spark is also a bonus in this situation so it doesnt get blown out!
Wont make ANY difference in a 1.6 NA engine!

This is true he read that on astra owners club its deff a worthwhile mod although it would not really instantly add bhp but rather allow more air to flow into the airbox

Not getting any help on the astra owners club, alot more help on here tbh
When you say the vectra C air intake is a worthwhile mod but wont make anymore bhp, what will be the advantages of it?

It won't make any difference at all on a 1.6 8v, there will be no advantage.

I've done more than a few of these things myself.
The best you get is normally kidding yourself on it's made it better.
Wouldn't stop anybody doing it, it's part of the learning process for everybody.

I put Iridiums on the Vixxer. Made no noticeable difference.
Definatley not worth it on a 1.6 8v.
If he wants a cheap, small mod a performance panel filter/ made be a better idea. May give a slight change in exhaust note and maybe 1-2 bhp......maybe!
