I want to set up a quick website for my business:
simple website (possibly with my own design)
100 pages MAX
with email I can receive/send from (e.g martyn@mybusiness.com)
Who's best to go with?
I also have one other domain that I did not reregister in feb 09 (with fast hosts) which I want to move across too (and simply forward it to my proper website)
no online shops etc required as yet
Thanks

Word of warning...if you arent at the minimum very 'decent' at designing/building websites then get someone to do it for you - although for all I know you could be great at it.
The only thing worse than a company not having a website at all is having a badly designed one IMO.

graphically I am very good, and know excactly how I want it to look
code wise I have not tried before, but could pick it up OK(ish)
Once redundent I will have a fair bit of time to play around lol
the 123reg site has 340 odd customisable templates, should be able to rustle something up from there!

Problem with templates is that you can usually tell they're templates

Exactly.
If you can design something then do it, and pay someone a few hundred to put it into a CMS and be done with the hassle of trying to learn something people have taken years to do!

Yeah he has done a great job on what he has done so far....he still has little bits to change though and seems to be concentrating on other stuff he has on...!!

Give me a couple of hundred and I'll sort everything, website, hosting, emails, moving domain, etc. It's not very well publicised, but I used to be a professional web developer once upon a time.

I run my own web design business but I suspect my prices would be out of your budget... It really depends how much you want to spend?
I would advise getting a local freelance web designer looking to expand their portfolio in exchange for very little money to do it (as long as they are shit hot and not just shit)!
Loads of other options as well... crowd sourcing for example (i.e. you go on somewhere like 99designs.com post up your project details and price, pay the money to 99designs who hold it in 'escrow' and you have loads of designers doing different layouts etc - at the end of it you just choose the one you like).
Finally - do NOT under any circumstances get a web designer from India or some far east country to do it for you - they may charge you sod all but they will essentially just buy a $50 template and tell you they've done it themselves!

The website does not need to be anything special, just a crisp clean layout with all the info required.

Aye, but even though that is the case, half the time these days making things cross-browser compliant, optimised for search engines, not 'amateur' looking, etc. isnt as simple as it used to be.

I would agree with you to an extent; You can often find domain names cheaper elsewhere if you know where to look, although you should do PLENTY of research before spending your monies with someone that may have shit customer service. I personally have dealt with companies in the past that offer good prices on stuff but getting any support out of them afterwards is like trying to get blood out of a stone.
Obviously I would recommend myself LOL but then I'm not the cheapest.

so 1 and 1 and 123reg if I buy a "package" I wont own the domain? Who owns it?
I used fasthosts to buy a domain 5 or 6 years ago, never used it, just forwarded it to another site. So I guess I own this domain?
Id rather have a crack at something rather then pay someone else, just the way I am in life
cheers
