Im not looking to do one, Im just wondering what sort of things would normally be changed in an engine rebuild.

what engine? and have you been qouted?

basic one that id do inc:

sump gasket set
head set
head bolts
big ends
main bearings
water pump
oil pump(or stock one rebuilt as castings are better)
cambelt kit.

block wise - re-honed IF within tolerance otherwise add about £600 or so for boring and new pistons also if cranks worn a grind fromm lad i use is £90

head - new guides/seats cut, new stem seals, light skim and obv rebuilt. original GM valves are better quality than the aftermarket stock valves(dont mean the single peice QED, paul ivey etc ones)

ive just priced up all parts to do an XE for a lad.

if want u2u me, i can copy it over, give you an idea. where abouts are you from?

Im from NI. Thats a great help, Im really asking because im on the search for a new car (c20xe) and just want to make sure i get one with the right things done to it.

how much do you pay?


tbh matey, unless building it yourself or you personnally take it to an engine reconditioners you cannot garuentee(spl) the works been done.

i do all my own work, and theres been a couple of times where engines have spun a shell and ive needed one done,

to give them the shaft and regrind all journals and suply shells was 230, robbin bastard i told them to get bent and sourced a crank for 30

i get crank done for 90 and for a set of acl 780s its £65 i think or 75!

my mates shit hot when comes donw to crank grinding, seat cutting etc. so there royally pulling your pants down
