Hi,

When I turn my PC on it will start to boot up, go through the general things and then a blue screen message will come up. I dont have enough time to read the message it is only on the screen for like 1 second, then my PC will just re-boot again.

I really dont want to re-format as I have important college work on my PC, but it might have to lead to that

Hope someone can help

Thanks

Will

What happens if you hit Pause when it's on the screen?

Most likely need a Windows disk and do a repair.

Otherwise, try hitting F8 whilst it's booting and see if you can go into Safe Mode then once you're in do a system restore.

Worth a shot.

The dreaded blue screen of death. Unless you can write down the error (Whether it means constantly rebooting multiple times to write it down, or taking a picture of the screen) you've not give enough info to try and solve the problem...

Either way, you're college work isn't lost by any means. You can always stick another drive in with windows on and use that as a secondary drive to whip you're shit off.

Nothing happens when I press pause, and I cant even get onto safe mode, when I press Enter to access safe mode it just re-boots like it has been doing

You just want to stick a Windows disc in, boot from it and do a repair.

Error 0x024 often happens as a result of the corrupt file system.
Running a repair doesn't work because the file system is corrupt and it'll just crash the installer.
At work, we use the ntfsfix utility on SystemRescueCD to fix it, but it works from Knoppix too:

EDIT: A repair might fix it, but if it crashes during the process this is probably why

I would recommend getting a version of Knoppix and burning it to a CD.
Booting up with this CD in will give you a live linux system running off the CD.

Now plug in a external hard drive and start copy all your crucial documents over onto it while running Knoppix. Afters thats done then just format the drive and start a fresh

You'd still need to repair NTFS to get the files out, and if you're doing that anyway then you might as well just reboot back to Windows and get it off.

Can you boot into Safe Mode or does it still crash?
If it still crashes, ntfsfix is your best bet.

As James said, NTFS is gunna be he only option I think.

YOu might not get access to the drive even if you boot from a liveCD.
