on my nikon d40 i bought a 55/200mm lens wich did atuo focus until last night, and it has stopped working. when i press to take a photo it would normally auto focus now it doesnt.its confusing as my 18/55mm lens will auto focus

Is there an AF/MF switch on the side of the lens. If so switich it to AF.

If not the lens is a gonner.

Did you buy an auto focus lens? The D40/60 doesn't have a motor, you would of needed an auto-focusing lens.

He said it did AF until last night.

Also try taking it off the body and re-attaching it

yup i have tried all of the above as said as off yesterday it did auto focus. take it its fubard then lol.

sorryonly read the "my 18/55mm lens will auto focus " bit.

Doesnt sound too promising then, take it to jessops or jacobs, and ask them to have a try of it? Worth a go at least

considering the lens, prob be cheaper to buy a new or second hand one
