I was talking to my next door neighbour yesterday about getting more power out of my 1.2 8v corsa..

I asked about replacing the head and he told me I'd lose compression and probably lose power.

So then he suggested replacing the camshaft for a 1.6 gsi one.
My car is 8v, isn't the gsi 1.6 16v? Does this matter? How would a camshaft improve performance?

and finally would I have to replace the camshaft (the metal bit) or the rest that comes with the camshaft (the rocker cover and distributor etc) ? cheers

I highly doubt the 16v Cam(s) would fit an 8v.
Why not fit a 1.4 or 1.6 16v engine?

He's fitting me a redtop, but I have to save a lot of money before I can afford all the bits and bobs...

Does he know what he's doing? I'd be a little concerned about his workmanship if he suggests fitting 16v cams to an 8v.

Save your money and effort and don't bother on the 1.2. Spend your money on getting the XE.

He's a qualified mechanic and his astra has parts of all cars...

redtop, c20let, ecotec, nissan 200sx front intercooler, he's quite capable. lol

There probably is some way you can bodge the 16v cams onto my 8v if he suggested it, I'm not sure how though...lol

Besides I refuse to swap the car until it's completely dead (I don't mean engine wise, I mean rust or needs serious wielding)...I love my car, lol

well not bodge. Don't be flaccid, you know what I mean, there is probably some method. If not he was simply mistaken, but I only came on here to ask

well it's not expensive to do and it's a little more power for now until I can afford a bigger block.

I know it's very more effective to change a block but I don't have the resources atm.

a cam will only cause your car to run lumpy, and add no bhp. personally wouldn't bother buddy
