Trying to colour a few cells in a spreadsheet I have.

Basically I have a column full of different dates (column A), and a column full of 'target' dates in column B. These target dates change depending on other data in the spreadsheet.

What I want to do is turn the target red if it falls behind the date in the first column, or green if it is ahead of target. I tried a regular 'if' formula but that doesn't let you apply a colour, and I can't get my head round conditional formatting

Can anyone help?

In 2007

Choose the cell that you want to colour.

Conditional Formatting

Highlight Cells Rule

Greater Than

Then click on the cell you're comparing it with, formula box will say something like =$A$1 then choose the format, ie. red fill, green fill.

You'll need a Greater Than and a Less Than and a red and a green on each cell so it goes both colours. If you need equal to then introduce a third format although it can be also red or green.
