I agree with your buyer TBH... If he is telling you he wants the item but can't afford it until 10 days time then what's the problem with that? Even if he won the item, didn't contact or pay you for it you would not be able to file a non paying bidder claim until it's been at least 7 days.

You would not go to a shop that had a sale on, walk up to the counter and ask for them to keep it for you at that price would you

yeah agree with that one, expecting to wait ten days before paying someone is out of order unless it was arranged prior to him winning the bid.

@ Andrew - In some places you can do this providing you leave a deposit.

@ ssj_kakarot - I suppose it depends on the item/price/how quickly you want to receive the cash.

Going by Twiggy's example (a football) unless it was some mega expensive signed-by-a-footballer one, I probably wouldn't be that fussed about waiting for 10 days. Although yes it would be nice to be asked beforehand - but then Twiggy never said in his post whether that was the case or not.

Just to clarify....
sold on the monday (am) no contact
Friday i emailed him asking when he will pay
He then said sat/sun
sunday pm i ask where payment is - he says he is waiting to get paid off others and will pay mon/tues
wed no payment i lodge a complaint and he gets a strike

Why bid on an item when you dont have the funds?
Why should i wait while he gets money off other people?

Well in that case it's different - if you'd have said the above in your original post then I would have replied differently...
