Did a 3 hour drive from Abu Dhabi to Fujairah on Thursday morning, then back on Friday night, a 3 hour drive both ways, along multiple highways.

Hire car company just rang and informed me of my first speeding fine that has come up, an hour after we set off - 120 quid - and the nice girl kindly finished the call be saying "I will inform you of more fines as I check through".

Aye, great. Cheers love.

Yeah, ussually paid at the end of the year iirc, however obviously hire companies work differently.

Remember hearing you have to pay off your fines to keep your license for the next year How cool

Yeah, but in parts, particular Dubai's highways, they're half/three-quarters of a mile or so, but normally slamming on the brakes as you see them works fine

We have a 'black point' system that has been recently introduced, but isn't really enforced, so 95% of the time you just get the fine. For people with hundreds and hundreds of quids worth of fines you can actually ask for discount!!

Yeah, your cars registration is renewed once a year, so your whole speeding fines over the year have to be paid at the same time when you renew the registration

Good way for the government to make a lot of money imo. Rather than get the continous offenders off the road, just make them keep paying more and more

Lets face it, £120 is cheaper than the misery of 3 points in this money grabbing country!

Agreed.

When I got 3 points for a TS10 in 2004 the cunt told me "aaah its ok it wont effect your premium much"...

So far it has cost me the £30 or £60 fine (can't remember) then the increased premiums for virtually 5 years as you have to declare any in last 5 years (not 4 when they actually come off your licence) and the fee £27 (I think) for the pleasure of removing them off my licence.

I don't think they mark th cameras like they do over here either, or so I've heard.

Sounds a nice system though. If yu're minted and dont GAF about £120 then you'd speed everywhere

not really the detterent to a normal person is that itll still be £120 which is still quite a lot to most...

and rich people are always tight with money anyway so they wont want to give it away...

what it stops is people having the lives ruined after a few mistakes. like i wouldnt class doing over 100 on an empty motorway at night a particular bad offence, but its still an instant ban...

Yeah fairplay but that would mean rich people could do 80 past a school and laugh it away...
