Where I live we get the planes from various RAF bases passing through on training, weaving in and out of the mountains etc, today at work I looked out to see 2 flying over really low and close together and one was so loud, it sounded wrong, like something was wrong with the plane. Turns out one has crashed.

Forces planes and helicopters do low flying over our offices on daily basis as the valley we our office faces up is the one they fly up to get to Windermere. Get a really good close up view of them.
Never crossed my mind till now that one of them could crash into us one day
Hopefully the pilots were able to eject and survived it.

seconded although at low level i didnt think ejecting would make much difference as you parachute wouldnt have chance to do anything .

Yeah they come really low through here aswell. They fly over in the massive cargo planes sometimes, almost looks like they're going to fall out of the sky as they look like they're going so slow.

The ejection seat can work as low as 300 feet.

The rest and be thankful road is immense.
I think its called that because it is quite a steep mountain road so at the top you had to rest your engine (probably over heated in those days) and be thankful it didn't blow the welds on the intake or fry any piston rings.
