i've got to do an essay on them before i go back to uni and the reference material on the web is a little vague and all the same, just after some links more than anything, i've got to write aout how they traded their products to the outside world.

Not being funny but have you tried the library?
There's still lots of topics where there is a wealth of paper knowledge but little to no electronic content.

Then check the online catalogue. It will tell you the books you need and their locations.
