Think you need to get a viewing card to watch the free channes (which i belive is free from sky, or maybe small fee).
Dont think the plus features will work though as you pay sky 10£ month for that.

It won't let you record without a valid Sky card.

It will act as a freeview box yes but you won't be able to record.

will act as a freesat box wont it?
Channels like Dave, sky sports news and a few others you cannot get though so might aswell get yourself a freeview box!

There is a one-off £25 (i think) fee to pay for a Sky freesat card.
An unsubscribed viewing card (your old one) will have some channels missing like channel 5 etc..
And you cant record without paying £10 a month but if your going to pay that you may aswell pay the minimum subscription of like £16 a month

It will work as a freesat box without buying any card, the card automtically downgrades to that.
Sky haven't charged £10 for sky + for years, although you won't be able to use it without a subscription.

Let me get this straight...
If I cancel my sky subscription on my bog standard box I can continue to use the box as a freeview?
This will come in handy for the week before I move out as I don't have an aerial in my flat.

Excellent it will mean I dont have to watch DVDs for an entire week. The standard box will also be going in the bin as I will be having a VM or Sky HD Box put in at my new gaff...

I have a spare normal sky box you can have to use as a digi box, was going to bin it but if anyone wants it let me know.

I stuck a spare box in the rents room and got one for the garage, even if they've not got full packages the picture is still better than my aerial and the cards can be swapped about if need be.

John - Doesn't that involve some wiring jiggery pokery up to the dish?

You still need a feed from the dish yes, luckily I could run them all easily.

Do you need that LNB whatever its called to run multiple boxes?
Even if the extra box is a bog standard box?

You need enough spare connections on the lnb, depending how many you need you can get quad and octo lnb's, they are only £20 and a straight swap if you needed more.
