My my missus' MK4 1.4 Ghia X is anything to go by, the Zetec S should handle like a dream.
Pretty much everything has been said r.e. faults etc. I did read somewhere that the newest Zetec S' had a slightly different engine, to the X and Y plates, so 02 should be lovely.
Warn steering wheel is common, and doesn't reflect the mileage.

I have thought about them before, but they lack power compared to my current Ibiza (want a bigger step).
I went out in a mates which was supposedly running around 170bhp but it didn't feel that quick

170bhp? I find that hard to believe, unless he had a different engine in there.

i've been looking at these for a while now. quite fancy one in blue.
my cousin has a black one which has been abused daily and has had no problems.
just make sure you understand about phase 1 and phase 2 differences as they changed some bits.

Phase 2 I would imagine, because 02 is the last year they did them in that reg, may be a few 52 plates about, but that'll be it.

Also check for rust at the bottom of the B pillar. Pull the door seal up to have look! I had to get the rust sorted on mine under warranty.

Rust Problems
1. Upto 80% of MK5 (also MK4) Fiesta's could be suffering from Corrosion(rust) under the door seals. If you are not sure where you need to check, its the rubber that runs round the inside of the door frame. It is split and meets in the middle on the bottom.
2. Rust on Rear Window Screw Caps. This can be simily fixed with a fresh coat of paint. Sand them down and applied 2 coats of humbrol satin black enamel paint. Takes 1/2 an hour max, costs £1.05, there are no brushmarks
3. Rust along the bottom of the boot lid and on the passenger side rear wheel arch.

some cars will be worse than others depending on how they've been maintained e.g winter road shite left on the car to eat away at the paint.
