Is a toxic 1000 watt amp a good swap for a fried 800 watt kenwood amp and a working GTO 400 watt amp?

You'd have been better sticking with kenwood and JBL, big 1000w numbers aren't the be all and end all of a good amplifier.

Caraudiosecurity.com my loudest amp lasted just over 3 months, completely burned out internally when it turned on once.
Also was suposedly 3000w yet the class d section of my 5 channel kicker amp which is only about 800w powers my sub much better, dont always trust the figures you are told, and i definately wouldnt trust the loudest again, Amp from them was wank in every way

yup, make very good subs and amps. my 1 kicker amp is powering two kicker Comp Vr subs, and two sets of vibe components. The amp is very powerful, and stays cool, and the subs go loud and hit all the low notes.
The main problem with kicker is the price!
I didnt spend a lot on my system because i was patient and managed to buy the majority second hand, although obviously there is an element of risk with that. It all worked for me luckily and i have managed to get a top class system pretty cheap

A lad at work has offered me a kicker sub with a 1000 watt amp attached to it for £40, not sure on the specs or make of amp though. Kicker sub would be better than my Sony Xplod 1200W sub?

Yes the kicker would be better, by far, that's a good deal btw.
the 1200w and 1000w aren't RMS. You need to know the RMS...but simply it's like actual levels you'll get and when buying speakers /woofers, look at the RMS. Plus kicker > sony.

Thats okay, the lad says he's had it a couple of years and has no use for it any more but garuantees that if it doesn't work i can have my money back. Whilst im at it, is it true that opening a car boot whilst the bass box is working damages the bass box?

I don't think so, haha. I've touched mine while it's been operating (not reccommended), and all sorts but mine's spot on.

Opening the boot doesn't make any difference tbh, whoever said that is making shit up.

Thats okay, so the higher the RMS, the better the sub/amp/speaker?

Yes, the better quality the audio goes by RMS. Not whatever watt rating is put in front of your face, that's only the maximum watt which is not entirely relevant.

Cheers for your help mate, but whats a decent average RMS for a sub/amp? One that wont blow your brains out but sound clear, and loud

They all vary, that 1000w kicker will be more than loud enough for you so it's a good job you can turn down the bass a little to adjust etc eh? lol, my pioneer woofer is 1000w and is very loud, how people can listen to much more without being deaf is beyond me.

if you want decent audio do not go to places like halfords you want to go to a backstreet professional audio place,

look up rainbow they sell very very good quality amps, subs and compontents.

its not all about power,
a bought a 4 channel amp from rainbow was 300 quid but was the bet amp i ever bought, had so many settings,
was only 300 wats rms per 2 channel but that was more than enough

its not about how loud it is, you need diffrent componets that act upod diffrent frequenceys
