get a v62 sent off which is you applying for ownership of the vehicle. now the problem there is, the person who is currently registered as the owner, which isnt you, can say no, i havent sold it. i still own it. therefore meaning you'd get fucked over for theft, car repossed etc.

Not true. My old Fiesta was in a compound whilst waiting for an insurance payout aftera crash. The compound were going bump so the owner sold my car.
I got a letter from DVLA saying somebody had attempted to register my car and asking if this was correct.
I actually called them up and said the was still mine and basically it was stolen.

The woman actually told me they will still issue a V5 to the person all they need to put on the V5 is the regular keeper/driver of the car.
I was told i'd have to contact the police. DVLA = Numties.
