My birthday is looming and I keep getting asked repeatedly what I want for my birthday from my parents and girlfriend.
I wouldn't mind a flash gun for my camera as it's the only real addition I need. What is out there for sub £100? If anything? What kind of features will it lack that a £300 flash gun has, for example?! Does it have to be a DSLR specific flash gun?
Any help greatly appreciated

Don't think you'll get anything official (ie. made by Canon).
You could look into a Sigma flash. I had the 530 DG which cost me just over £100. Was basic but worked for basic flash shots.
For anything fancy (like changing power levels beyond what the camera thinks, remote firing etc) you'll need to spend a bit more.
Should really be a DLSR specific flash, the hotshoe on your camera may or may not support all other flash units which may either lead to damage to the flash, or worse damage to the camera.

I have a Sigma lens which seems to do the job, so not worried about brand/Canon specific.
I'd just like something which works better than the standard camera flash.

My Sigma was certainly more powerful than the standard, plus you can turn the head to get the flash to bounce off different surfaces which is good, but other than that a bit basic.
If you can find a speedlight 430 on ebay under £100 thats probably your best bet.

Being able to angle the flash is the most important thing. And get better spread when bikign.
