anyone on here ever fitted there own sub and amp? i so what wires do u need and how hard is it, or is it best left to the professionals?

Pretty straightforward basically.
Easiest thing to do is buy a amp wiring kit - this will give you all the wires you need to get started.
For the amp you'll have a red live wire, an earth and a remote (blue).
The red live goes to the battery
The blue remote goes to the remote output from your headunit (usually blue, or blue with white stripes)
For the earth, find a suitable location in the boot - the seat belt bolts would be ideal.
You'll also have some RCA (phono) leads - run these from the amp to the RCA outputs of your headunit.
Then use the speaker cable to attach the sub to the amp as per usual - job's a good 'un! 
When running th wires up through your car make sure you keep the power wires away from the RCA's as they have been know to cause interference.
