My pc recently died and I require a new motherboard

I want to keep new parts to a minimum so I am looking to reuse my ATX case

my question is

There are lots of M/boards out there, I have been told that ASUS do good boards

I know I need a board with 4 Ram slots

What is clock speed and what speed is best or do I require ?
I had a look on ebay just for vague prices.... what does it mean when I can filter by socket ?

any help . advice . will be very appreciated.

You'll need to select a board based on the processor you currently have.

This processor will have a socket number. Find this out then it will narrow down your selection of boards.

Then you have your memory, you may have SD, DDR or DDR2 RAM. Again, your new board will need to be compatible.

ASUS do make decent boards but if the spec of the pc isn't great, just use a cheap and chearful board, you won't notice any difference.

Any board you buy will accomodate your IDE devices so that's sorted.

If you're willing to buy a better processor you'd be better off if you also buy some DDR2 ram, it's cheap as chips and it'll allow you to get a much better processor!

As long as it's a standard size ATX board, it can still go in your case

A cheap dual core CPU, 2GB DDR2 on a cheap board will be much better than your current setup.

the cpu is socket AM3 and the board is AM2, you need to match them up buddy. that board also only has 1 ide drive, but if you get that dvd drive you can plug that into one of the SATA slots on the board
