This is most probably a very easy question for anyone that owns one, but can PS3's do HD-upscaling on DVD's? If so, what do they upscale to?
I may be looking at getting a slim one soon but would like to know this first.

There is your answer, I'm sure it would have been quicker just to do that really....

if you are using blueray it will upscale to 1080p if your tv does too.

Bluray comes at 1080p, it doesn't upscale to it.
It will upscale dvd's to 1080p.

it also appears to upscale avi files aswell.

Helpful as usual Joe Cheers everyone else, got a 1080p tv so don't want my dvd's looking like a blurry mess
