I once got over 2 years uptime on a XP machine. I used to drag all the auto-update requests to the bottom right hand side of the screen so only like a pixel or two would be showing.

onlky when it automatic updates which has been a couple of times recently then it doesnt reboot properly and end up with a black screen and mouse icon. has happened twice recently and have had to turn it off
