I have an uncle in Auckland and he keeps telling me im welcome to visit. After redudancy earlier this year I am seriously contemplating going out there and working, maybe even emmigrating there if I like it.

I have been doing plenty of research on the net and just touched base with my uncle to get more info but I just wanted to see if any off you have worked there or travelled over there and am very keen to hear your opinons/experiences.

not interested in any theorists that havent been there, theres plenty of that all over the net but anyone with any actual experience most welcome.

Thanks.

Think she only had 1yr tourist Visa.

She could have extended it for another yr (think you can stay a max of 24mnths there) but mix of missing family, running out of cash & having seen most of what she wanted to see/do in the year.

Still maintains its an ace place.

Never been, but have been looking into moving out there for the last few years and have done plenty of reading around as well as speaking to the kiwi business teacher (made his fortune and decided to travel and teach) where i work - the census seems that it's fairly easy to get a visa, although it wise to go over with a fair amount in your bank account and try and get job interviews already lined up (preferable an offer already on the table) etc. The business teacher was saying property is pretty cheap (Kiwi's tend to own multiple properties, and he was just purchasing a £600k ranch last time i spoke), food/drink isn't too bad although fuel prices are starting to hit them. He was saying that if you have enough savings (pounds) you can live a good life, although you are a bit screwed if you plan to head back due to the exchange rates. I've been looking at $30k NZD production jobs and that's £13k

On the plus side though the standard of living is better, scenery is absolutely mind blowing and weather is pretty much spot on most of the year (don't really have a 'rainy' season as such, can piss it down when ever, although the west and south tend to be the most wet).

If you can spare a few weeks/month then it's probably best to head out there and see what's about - that's my plan once i've saved enough.
