The group B cars are indeed slower than the WRC cars these days becuase of trick diffs, better tyres etc.
The WRC cars are meant to be limited to 300bhp but they are more like 350+bhp and maybe over 500lb/f of torque.

How gay and boring does a modern WRC vehicle look compared to a Grp B beast though.

I thought they just had a restrictor thats a set size in the air intake rather than they can only be 300bhp? In theory there is no power limit...

quote:
To limit power, all forced induction (turbocharged) cars are fitted with a 34 mm diameter air restrictor before the turbocharger inlet, limiting the air flow to about 10 cubic meters per minute. This air flow limits power output of the engine to 300 hp officially, although the latest WRC engines are believed to produce around 330-340 hp in spite of the air restrictor. With this technologically easy to achieve, engine development is focused towards producing an engine with a very wide powerband (or power curve). Generally speaking, a power output in excess of 300 hp is available from 3000 rpm to the 7500 rpm maximum, with a peak of 330-340 hp at around 5500 rpm. At 2000 rpm, which is the idle speed in "stage" mode, the power output is slightly above 200 hp [2].
200bhp at 2k rpm

There is a restrictor 34mm I think, which was supposed to limit them to 300oddbhp but people found ways to make more bhp.

How retarded are those people jumping out of the way at the last min just to get a pic
I personally believe it was the clueless spectators that got it banned or the people that organised the events not enforcing better safety rules.
Yes it was a shame that the rs200 killed some people when it lost control effectively ending Group B rallying but what did they think was gonna happen having that many poeple so close to the road, sometimes on the road.
