there's loads of things it could be, you need to plug in the diagnostic check to find out. or as said linking out the pins and seeing for yourself.
also if your light came on it would show a fault it stores the last 20 or something.

If you really cane the engine, the ECU can default to a 'safe, get you home mode' - it only allows you to drive at low rpm and is designed to protect the engine from possible damage. If you disconnect the battery for an hour, the ECU should reset itself and revet to normal operation. Just a thought...

is this a 1.2 8v with the dizzy at the end ie like the nova engines, if so then 99% certain that its the dizzy, this is exactly what happened with my old 1.4, its the hall effect transducer or something that sin there, they fitted a new dizzy and ran perfect for about 20K miles till I ripped it out and fitted a 2L

it is a 1.2 8v, i have the same engine and the dizzy is at the end just like the nova's

i had a similar problem on a 1lt corsa dealer said the headgasket was shot and the head would have to be skimmed
