talking of vtec, i was pulling on some del sol 1.5 tec the other day
he hit vtec, i changed in 3rd and sat with him, 1.8 torque

1.5 vtec?  Thats not even vtec. Its some gay lame "economy" tec and will only rev up to 7k max like a normal car. And if you just sat with him, i'd redtop your corsa

does explain it then, well it sounded like it had tec or cams,
was in the corsa c btw, which is standard 1.8
