thinking about getting one of these. I drive 50miles a day, 25 to work and 25 back, was looking for something with decent MPG, but with the power still attached, with the price of petrol on the up, i then decided to look for a diesel, but i keep on looking at CTR's, Leon Cupra's, and Golf Gti's, then came across the TDI A3.
Has anyone had any experience with them or know anyone that owns them, give me some background on what there like, driving everyday, performance etc etc
these are the ones i have seen..
here
here
thanks

First one is a 1.6, wouldn't have it if you gave me it for free.
Second one has far too many miles, 6k for a 7 year old car with 100k miles, no chance.

They aren't bad cars, I just personally wouldn't buy one with that high a mileage.
What about a 1.9ctdi astra

Anything VAG with a diesel engine you'll unfortunately pay a premium for.
Seat? Not German but slightly less of a premium on them.

You'll certainly struggle for anything decent either Audi or VW for 6k.
I've got a Golf 1.9 tdi but paid nearer 10 than 6k.
I reckon Johns suggestion of a 1.9 Astra would be much more within your budget tbh. I'd far sooner choose lower mileage over supposed country of origin.

Im pretty sure for around your budget you'll find an 04/05 plate Seat Ibiza 130 Sport (PD130).
I have the newer variant of the engine in my Ibiza FR and its a nice engine especially with the 6 speed gearbox

If you wanted to go as small as an Ibiza I can't recommend a Fabia VRS enough, you'd probably get a half decent one for 6k now.

Hmm, 8k is starting to get in the range for a better VAG.
Not sure tbh, Arnold Clark were desperate to sell cars 2 weeks ago, I'd see what they've got in, can't have picked back up much by now.

Look on any local VW dealer and you'll find loads of Mk5 Golfs for 8k with alright mileage.
Saw one a few weeks ago on the forecourt, 1.9tdi 45000 miles on an 06 plate, £8200 IIRC.
Lot of money for a 3.5 year old car, but the values aren't going anywhere quick. Audi will no doubt hold even better, but you'll get less for you money in the first place.

Buy my CTR, 52 plate, 2 owners, 58k, 12 months Mot, 6 Months tax and still sees over 37 mpg on the motorway. Milano red, immaculate all round

Brilliant car's the A3, one of the VAG range that deserves the VAG tag IMO.
Dad has a 05 reg 2.0TDi Sportback that did 149k with only services and a front hub.
