That's amazing. I would've though it would have gone into some sort of spiral!

You mean stalling?
From what i know, the cobra can only be performed in a limited range of aircraft, mostly thrust vectoring (TVC), due to restraints, such as angle of attack limits. Although performing the manoeuvre in a TVC aircraft is slightly different as the aircraft actually stops mid-air and 'hovers' (doesn't loose much air speed) rather than being a short, quick manoeuvre that looses lots of air speed.
Either way, i don't think it's actually used in combat certainly not with operational loads (weapons etc).

IIRC, with AOA disable (i think most aircraft are limited to 30 degrees), the aircraft enters the manoeuvre at slow speed. The pilot then yanks on the stick, until he reaches the desired AOA (usually 90-110 degrees) - so now the aircraft is belly forward. At this point, the drag at the rear of the aircraft causes the aircraft to pitch forward and rotate backwards and the pilot increases throttle to make up the loss of airspeed.
Entering the manoeuvre is different depending on the aircraft, like the Su-27 needs to be 30 degrees up when entering to recover correctly. And i think fuel loads comes into play as well. But you get the idea.

And the super cobra is the same except you go for the full 360 on axis (could be wrong though). I know the Russians claimed that the Su-37 could only do the super cobra, but i think the F-22 has performed it as well (was rumoured that a pilot performed it with a full fuel load and weapons).

Like i say though, i don't think it's used during combat mainly because the "boggey" has to be right up your rear, then you have slow down to perform the manoeuvre and the "boggey" could easily spot it and compensate their airspeed to match. That and compressor stall, which you don't want in combat situation

There's also a horizontal version of the Cobra but can't find any vids.

I remember reading it in a book a few years ago, it basically talked about the cobra but instead of aircraft starting horizontal (then pulling back on the stick), the aircraft started at a 90 degree roll. It sounded plausible but i've never found anything to back it up.

There is the cobra turn but that's slightly different.

yeah will need to put in cool stories to keep them focused! TSR2 could be a good one, have to admit i had forgotten all about it, such a shame that corrupt politicians ruined britains engineering genius.

Nice work Imagine the stress/loading generated on the air frame when carrying out that kind of activity though.

Nice choice of music. Very appropriate.

Could have done with a bit of Danger Zone though and a dash of...''Negative Ghostrider, the pattern is full''
