Alright guys, during a long drive on saturday my oil light came on, as i was within a few miles of my destination i thought i'd sort it when i got there. The dipstick seemed fine but i thought i'd go and get a bottle and put it in for peace of mind for the return journey.

Anyway, later on as i was about to leave so turned the engine on and the light remained on. Then throughout the journey home the light was ON between 0-30mph, OFF between 30-70mph and it came back ON when i went over 70mph.

Any ideas what it could be?

Dodgy bulb?
Oil Sensor?
Over-Filled it?

Oil light generally means oil pressure, not that it's low on oil.

Lots of possibilities then!

It's the SXI Gavin, in all fairness the amount of miles i do in it, i'm not suprised it'll die soon. I did 878 miles between monday-saturday last week as it's my work runabout aswell at the mo.

I'm trying to resist spending too much money on it as i want to buy a new car, i just need to get my arse in gear and get looking. I've got enough money saved for a decent motor, so i'm trying to resist spending too much more on this wagon!

Get it looked at asap though as it could be very simple and nothing to worry about or be a big problem, starve of oil and cost you alot

Pffff get shot if you have the money for a new car. I'm in the same situation, except my MOT is due before I can get rid. Should be fun.

I'm just trying to keep it on the road for as long as possible as i get a company vehicle when i'm 21 so will do alot less miles in a new car and will be able to treat it better.

I'm going to get it checked over while i'm at college wednesday then

P.S, anyone find a decent Zetec-S within 60miles of Colchester let me know

I had the same problem in my vectra a few weeks ago mate, lasted for about 3-4days, I ignored it and it went away I'd recently changed the oil filter and topped oil up so I knew it wasn't that! If it comes back, it's going into the garage!
